Besakih to Sebudi

A special challenge hike contouring Agung’s remote highland ridges coming 2024

This is a special stage, contouring Bali’s mother mountain Agung on a highland traverse of multiple ridges, connecting two of Bali’s most important temples, Pura Besakih and Pura Pasar Agung.

For those of you who are trail fit and keen for a unique and remote challenge, at medium altitude. Bring along a sarong and appropriate temple-wear to visit Pura Besakih and Pura Pasar Agung (optional), and sufficient trail snacks to enjoy on this super day out.

GBT 19 is organised into 2 sections:

GBT 19a Besakih (Taman Edelweiss) – Sebudi (Taman Sari)
- 10km / D 4 / F 4 (remote)
GBT 19b Sebudi (Taman Sari) – Sebudi Sogra
- 2km / D 4.5 / F 4 (off-piste bushy valley-crossing with steep, erosion-prone ascent)

Much cooler and fresher than at sea-level. If driving up on the day from the coast, you may at first be slightly out of breath, so optimal if sea-level residents start slowly and warm into the altitude and terrain.

This contours Agung’s ridgelines at the forest-edge or in the forest. 55% of trek is crossing valleys, 45% is up-down ridgelines.
